A Chorus Line PosterEast High School is proud to announce that it will perform the high school edition of “A Chorus Line,” during the 2017-18 school year. East High School is the first school in the state to secure production rights, and this premier opportunity is a great fit with the programming and offerings at East and The Fine Arts Institute.
“A Chorus Line: High School Edition” is a full-length version of the Pulitzer Prize winning musical, adapted for performance by high school students. The show features one powerhouse number after another, including memorable musical songs “What I Did for Love,” “One,” “I Can Do That,” and “I Hope I Get It.” The show celebrates the unsung heroes of the stage: the chorus dancers.
Every aspect of this new edition has been developed specifically for high school performers: dialogue and content are age-appropriate, dance sequences are of a length benefiting high school dancers, vocal solos and ensemble numbers scored for student vocalists, and allowances made to feature actors of any race or ethnicity.
The early signing opportunity came as a result of Kevin Flogel attending the 2016 Broadway Jr. Summer Intensive workshop in New York. Mr. Flogel is the Artistic Director at Webster Elementary and Choreographer for the musical at Green Bay East. “Attending the seminar, supported by the District, gave me connections to make an early application for the show,” stated Flogel. “After discussing with the entire directing team, we were on board.”
The directing team is working with Tams-Witmark for licensing the show. East High School and The Fine Arts Institute will have early auditions in spring 2017 to allow for a summer dance/vocal camp for the cast.
